When you create an application map the web-app shows you two option to select before you can export:
- Raster maps: By selecting this option, Atfarm calculates on a 20x20m grid-cell basis (grid sizes can vary in very large fields). This procedure ensures high accuracy and we recommend this option if you are planning to load the file in a variable spreader. The variable spreader then adjusts automatically the rate according to the location. However, when using the Atfarm mobile app to spread, this might lead to misapplication and frustration as the rates change too frequently.
- Zone maps: We recommend this option when you use the drive mode in the Atfarm mobile app. The zone map is based on the raster map, but it clusters cells with similar values to reduce the number of rate changes while driving on the field. This obviously reduces the accuracy to some extent, but it increases usability and therefore accessibility of precision fertilization.
